    ARRANGEMENTS FOR ADMISSION

 

    Admission Rules for 2010/2011

 

    In the year commencing 1st September 2010 the Governors will admit 180 pupils at age 11 without reference to ability or aptitude. The school’s Published Admission Number (PAN) is 180. The school is committed to taking its fair share of vulnerable children who are hard to place, in accordance with locally agreed protocols. Accordingly, outside the normal round of admissions, the governing body are empowered to give absolute priority to a child where admission is requested under any local protocol which carries the agreement of both the governing body and the diocese for the current admission year. The governing body has this power even when admitting such a child would exceed the normal admission number.

 

    Hertfordshire County Council operates a coordinated admissions proceedure and in order to be considered for admission, the Common Application Form (CAF) should be completed and submitted to the LEA and the School’s Supplementary Information Form (SIF) should be completed and submitted to the school.

 

    Criteria to deal with over subscription

 

    Where applications for admission exceed the number of places available, children will be admitted from the following categories in the order set out:

 

    First Catholic looked after children

 

    Second Children baptised into the catholic faith (supporting documentary evidence will be required see the supplementary notes at the end of this document.)

 

    Third All other looked after children

 

    Fourth Children of other Christian denominations, whose parents wish them to have a Catholic education and whose application is supported by a minister of religion, or other religious leader

 

    Fifth Children of non Christian faiths, whose parents wish them to have a Catholic education and whose application is supported by a religious leader.

 

    Sixth Any other applicants

 

    In the event of over subscription in categories two, four and five, priority will be given in the following order:

 

    A. Siblings* of children at Nicholas Breakspear School at the time of admission

 

    B. Children who are judged to have a exceptional social need which can most appropriately be met at Nicholas Breakspear Catholic School, and where evidence is provided by an appropriate professional, such as a social worker, doctor or priest, at the time of application to the governing body. PLease demonstarte that this evidence demonstrates clearly why Nicholas Breakspear Catholic School can meet the particular need most appropriately.

 

    * Sibling means a brother, sister, half brother, half sister, adopted brother or sister, or child of the parent or partner, and in every case, living in the same house Monday to Friday at the time of admission.
