Careers at NBS

Our comprehensive Careers programme takes students from Year 7, when they enter the school, to Year 13, when they leave the school. Careers is delivered within the PSHE programme, and there is an extensive support programme. This is delivered by the form tutors, with help from the Heads of Year, and the Careers Co-ordinator, Mr Hones. If students need help they can ask Mr Hones or make an appointment to see the Connexions Advisor, Mrs Byrne, who visits the school every Monday. Students can drop in to see the Connexions Advisor without an appointment at Monday lunch time.There is a well-stocked Careers Library situated in the Learning Information Centre and the Careers Librarian, Mrs White, is on hand to help students. There is a vast array of resources including 150 computers throughout the school, all of which have internet access and a variety of relevant Careers Programmes on the school intranet.

    Quality Award for Careers Education

    Celebrations were the order of the day as the school was awarded the Connexions Quality Award for providing excellent Careers Education and Guidance teaching. Assessors examined the school in terms of its Careers policies, resources, learning, and how well the entire programme is managed and organised. In all areas, the school demonstrated very good practice. The report says that students have received excellent support and advice in helping students decide on their future career paths, especially at key transition points in their school life.
