Earthquakes hit the Geography Department!
Mrs. Fitzgerald: Head of Geography:
“All Year 7 pupils in all classes had to make a model of a specific earthquake for an individual project over the Christmas holidays. These set of models are by far the best I have ever seen in terms of information and the quality of the models. A lot of what they researched was really good. It was also nice to see such a wide range of approaches. The better ones were really specific and showed the general impact of the earthquake.

“Art is my favourite subject so I really enjoyed this project, as it involved making things. My Earthquake is based on the 1989 San Francisco earthquake, when the Bay Bridge collapsed. I looked at photos on the internet to see if I could get it right. I use toy cars, purchased from a shop, Styrofoam, plaster, tissue paper and spray. The toy boat belonged to my dad; he had it when he was a child.”

“I spent the whole day on my model. I used real rubble (from a building which belonged to my uncle which we helped to knock down!) I looked on the internet to find a really bad earthquake and the Haiti one on Jan 16th 2010 was really devastating, and it’s well known, so I thought it would be a good one to do. I used toy cars which I used to have when I was younger and smashed them up with a hammer.
Ms. Price: Head of Year 7
"Year 7 students, once again, have proved what a creative and talented Year group they really are. They have really raised the bar in terms of KS3 project work. These are some of the best models the Geography department have ever seen! I am very proud of them."
