A Level History Trip to America

After a pretty long plane journey all 25 of us, along with Mrs Mason and Mr Laing arrived in Washington D.C airport, to be met by our tour guide bob and our trusty bus driver Vance. Our first excursion was into the heart of Washington D.C and to the completely corner free Smithsonian Native American museum. We then continued to view some of the many many memorials of the city in between having dinner at a very glamorous train station. Finally we took a stroll outside Mr Obama’s front garden.

Following our much appreciated sleep we set off for Arlington cemetery in the freezing cold. The rest of the day we spent at a moving holocaust museum and the much awaited space museum, later visiting all of hundreds of memorials by night.

Day 3 was to be spent travelling to Williamsburg, however the journey was worthwhile as we got to marvel at how behind the town was, although there was a good cheese and sweet shop (and Sam met the love of his life)We were then transported back in time to the colonial period and paraded the streets of Williamsburg and got into a few arguments with a chef and a wig maker.

Gettysburg was our next stop where we learnt about the civil war and got to see a real a musket being fired (unsuccessfully). We were then lucky enough to tour the battlefields in the snow!!!!! You could still see some of the bullet holes in the buildings. Our evening activity was to be amused with a crazy lady attempting to spook us on a night time ghost walk.

Everyone was extremely excited to get to New York on day 5 especially after the long journey; fortunately we managed to entertain ourselves on the bus. Before bed time we were set loose in Macy’s for some retail therapy. The next day we crammed in everything you could possibly do in New York including central park, Rockefeller centre, Grand Central Station,Times Square and the Empire State building by night. Sase’s highlight of the trip was our exploits down 5th avenue which made her feel “oh so sex and the city.”

Our last day was a trip to visit the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island - we almost froze. We quickly stopped at ground zero and a last minute shopping excursion. Then JFK to LDN. We would like to thank Mr. Laing and Ms. Masson for running such a superb trip
