Ann Mayne, our local conservative MP, in deep discussion with the headgirl

As part of their PSHE course this term the whole of Year 10 were treated to a talk by the Conservative MP, Ann Mayne, who generously gave a morning of her time, to come in to the school and discuss her roles and responsibilities within the Government. She spoke at length at what had prompted her to be an MP. Her talk was very interesting and informative and will hopefully prompt more of our students into a similar career. Politics is a very popular option at A and AS Level. As part of this course, students have visited Strasbourg and the court of human rights in the past, and there are plans to visit Parliament. The Picture shows Ann grilling the headgirl after the formal talk she gave to the whole of Year 10.

YEAR 10 WORK EXPERIENCE

Our Year 10 students had a very successful week’s Work Experience from 4 to 8 June. This was the first time that we used the Herts Careers website and students were able to log on and choose placements or arrange a private placement. Students were able to choose from a diverse range of business such as retail, child care, education & pre-school, supermarkets, veterinary surgeries, the NHS, catering, newspapers, engineering, farming, beauty & hairdressing, office admin, horse riding, estate agency, the automotive industry, charities and the sport & leisure industry. Students were visited by members of staff during the week and the vast majority of them had a great time and gained a lot from the experience. Several students were offered part-time jobs as a result. Congratulations to all our students on a good week.

The Hertfordshire Youth Charter

This Charter aims to support and enable all young people in Herts to enjoy good healthand stay safe from harm and neglect. We want young people to grow up able to look after themselves, enjoy their lives and make a positive contribution in developing the right skills to lead a fulfilling and rewarding adult life.

All young people have these rights. They cannot be taken away, however as a young person you have the responsibility to respect yourself, other people's rights, and the environment and to know that all decisions taken about you should always be in your best interest.
