Support for Charities

"The pupils have an appreciation of how fortunate they are and a desire to help others less fortunate, which is most ompressive. They are keen and responsive to both local and global situations and want to put their faith into action.” (Diocese Inspection Report 2011)

Supporting people less fortunate than ourselves is an important part of life at Nicholas Breakspear School. We have an annual pilgrimage to Lourdes with HCPT (Handicapped Children's Pilgrimage Trust) and produce Christmas hampers for the needy through the St Vincent De Paul Society.

Nicholas Breakspear School has a strong, generous tradition of giving which is overseen by the Outreach Co-ordinator. Major charity drives take place during Lent with lesser ones in Advent and family fasts. Speakers from the various charities visit the school and, in some cases, the recipients of the help. This is seen as an informative exercise as well as being character building for the future. In Advent we have a Hamper liturgy, where each tutor group contributes to provide Christmas presents and food for the needy in our community.

We have strong links with the Catholic Children’s Society, Cardinal Hume Centre, HCPT, LIFE, and the Saint Vincent de Paul Society.
