The Astroturf Development.
We are delighted to announce that Nicholas Breakspear has been granted planning permission for the development of the planned Astro-turf facilities on Monday night, following a planning committee meeting.
These state of the art sports facilities are being developed by Nicholas Breakspear School, in conjunction with St Albans City Youth Football Club. The new facilities will include a 4th generation astro pitch with 6 changing rooms, and classrooms attached. These facilities will hopefully be ready for the students at Nicholas Breakspear to experience. All students will benefit from these facilities in their PE lessons and they will enhance our extra curricular programme. The local community will also have the opportunity to make full use of these sports areas outside of school hours.
We would like to continue to assure our local residents that the impact regarding local traffic will be absolutely minimal, and that the school already has parking facilities for 150 cars.
Mervyn Morgan, a trustee for St Albans City Youth, said the club is delighted the young players finally have a new ground to train on.
He said: “It's about time, the club is over the moon about it. It's been a very very long road, and we could have been there a year ago.”
Mr Morgan said the hours of use have been reduced on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings in response to concerns raised by residents.
He added: “The strength of support really came out this time, against the number of people who had opposed.”
Phil Jakszta, headteacher at the school, added: “We are simply delighted to receive planning permission.”
